Martech Motor Winding Ltd. – CASTLEGAR is looking to hire a 3rd or 4th Year Electric Motor Systems Technician Apprentice (Motor Winder) 

Job Summary: 

The successful candidate will have a basic understanding and skillset to assess, repair or rebuild electric motors or pumps.  Experience with welding machines, standby generators and transformers are considered as asset. The candidate should be  physically capable to lift and carry heavy objects as required and will report directly to the Shop Foreman. Reliable with a  focus on safety and mechanical aptitude. There is room for advancement for the right person.  

Job Details: 

This is a Full-Time position that is available immediately. The position is based in Castlegar, BC reporting to the Motor Shop  Foreman. Hours required are from 7am-3:30pm Mon-Fri with minor fluctuations for start and end times depending on  jobs/projects. OT as required. Wage and benefits are based on education, experience and qualifications. Follows Local Union  Agreement IBEW #1003. 

Job Description: 

  • Diagnose failure causes and dismantle electric motors and pumps for servicing, modification or repair Remove and replace shafts, bearings, commutators and other mechanical components 
  • Ability to read drawings, manuals and blueprints as it relates to the task 
  • Wind and assemble various types of coils for electric motors and pumps 
  • Accurately complete required paperwork associated with the respective job 
  • Capable of performing mechanical measurements 
  • Always work safely in all aspects of the task being undertaken (preparation, in-progress and cleanup), including  identifying, reporting or correcting all hazards and wearing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) on a regular basis Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing 
  • Other duties as required 

Education:  

  • 3rd or 4th Year Apprentice – Electric Motor Systems Technician (Motor Winder)  

Qualification Requirements and Skills:  

  • Must have a valid class 5 drivers license 
  • Ability to drive manual transmission an asset 
  • Minimum 2 or more years of apprenticeship experience as a motor winder 
  • Knowledge of AC and DC Electric Motor Winding 
  • Knowledge of armature and stator constructions according to manufacturer specifications Fundamentals of Electrical Theory 
  • Must be able to take direction and work well both independently and within a team 
  • Crane and forklift operation are considered an asset 
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills 
  • Flexible with the ability to move between various jobs

The Full-Time position of Electrical Estimator will report to the Senior Electrical Estimator and will be responsible  for all aspects of the assigned work including: 

  • Estimating 
  • Developing schedules 
  • Material purchasing 
  • Consulting with clients, vendors and engineers 
  • Analyzing project details and developing strategies to meet goals 
  • Submitting accurate detailed progress claims 
  • Representing the company in a professional manner  
  • Working to develop and maintain strong relationships with clients 

EDUCATION 

  • Electrical Estimating, Quantity Survey, GSC or Electrical Technologist AScT OR 
  • Electrician’s License with estimating experience and/or training OR 

 Equivalent combination of education and experience  

QUALIFICATIONS, COMPETENCIES AND ABILITIES 

  • Ability to interpret documents such as safety rules, and procedure manuals 
  • Ability to write reports and correspondence 
  • Ability to work effectively with other team members 
  • Ability to interpret and administer contract details 
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced work environment 
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form Class 5 Driver’s License and clean driver’s abstract 
  • Able to provide a clean Criminal Background check 

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft Word processing software;  Microsoft Excel spreadsheet software, Accubid, BlueBeam and have strong computer skills
